WHY YOU NEED TO SEE CJ MONÉT LIVE

Alright, so boom, I’m going to try to not make this long winded 😂. But, about a month ago we went to see CJ Monét live and we’d like to tell you about it. As you may or may not know, we released collab merch for CJ’s album, “Confessions of a People Pleaser.” If you haven’t checked it out yet, hit the shop button at the bottom of this write up. We released the collab pieces at CJ’s first show for the album in Greensboro, NC.

To start off, Flower in Bloom is hella dope. I became a fan that night, instantly opened my phone and went to follow her on my music streaming apps. It was my first time hearing her music in general, so it was a cool feeling to be put onto something new. Before CJ took the stage she mingled for a short moment to listen to Flower’s set, as well as say hello to several people. We got to meet several members of her band, back-up vocalists, and friends/family/fans of CJ’s. The energy in the building was a vibe, very chill, and socialble. Great music and live instrumentation really set the tone.

When you hear CJ’s album, your first reaction is “damn, she’s talented.” But, when you hear CJ live, it’s like “damn, she’s really like that.” Often times an artist sounds very different from hearing their music via CDs/streaming/vinyl to live performing. Her talent was very evident and she was still herself throughout the set. With dialogue in between songs that kind of set the scene or displayed her personality, it made you appreciate the direction of the track that she either just finished up or was about to go in to. Im no music expert, but her vocal range was perfect to me. There wasn’t a time where I felt she didn’t hit a note or that she sounded anything other than amazing. To that point, she was like midway through her performance and Collyn was like “you gotta do a write up about this experience” and I thought the idea was perfect. She even gave us a little shoutout before she got into her “Serotonin” track which was dope. You can peep that here at the 1:51:00 mark. Shoutout to Queztion’s Twitch stream.

She did perform a few tracks that weren’t on the album, which was nice. One of my favorite tracks ever from CJ is “open your heart.” Which to my surprise, she performed! A few tracks that really stood out to me that were very vibrant with live instrumentation during the performance was “The Wheel, Face the Music, Too Late, and Living For.” All the tracks were amazing, but those had me like “damn, I didn’t know these songs could sound this much better.”

All in all, CJ Monét is a star. She’s talented, personable, and authentic. We believe that North Carolina has a hidden gem when it comes to her, which is why we’re playing our part by putting the next person onto her music. Currently CJ’s shows are around $15-$18, which is more than affordable. Go out and support pure artistry!

With that being said, IF YOU HAVE NOT YET SEEN CJ MONÉT LIVE, yah need to be at her show in Durham, NC this Saturday August 8th. It’s a home game for her, so I’m sure the show is going to be lit. Her music is therapeutic, her energy is welcoming, and both her and her band are extremely talented. Take our word for it, and at the very least if you can’t make it, go stream that album “Confessions of a People Pleaser”
